Slade remind us of just how good Christmas songs can be, and if you’d rather not feel the noize, then my absolute favourite Christmas piece of music, which I always say it isn’t Xmas for me until I’ve heard it, is the wonderfully evocative ‘Troika’ from Lt Kije Suite by Prokofiev.
Did you know that ‘Troika’ is Russian for a vehicle drawn by 3 horses abreast?
Did you know that Slade’s festive hit reached No1 in 1973 and was their 6th & last No1 song in the UK charts.
And yes, I do remember going to my local town of Royston, Hertfordshire, and buying a copy on single from a record shop in Angel Pavement arcade (I think).
